I received a message today from my friend Boris, who is studying in Germany this coming semester. He created a blog exactly like this one to update friends from back home, and I thought it was a brilliant idea so I decided to copy him. Also, I've created a webpage for viewing pictures taken while I'm abroad.
I leave for Switzerland in exactly 13 days. I'm studying with SIT, the School for International Training, and my program focuses on Development Organizations and Public Health. I'll be living with a host family, from whom I happened to receive an email this morning. Here's what I know:
- Renate, my host mother, lives alone in an apartment in Mont sur Rolle
- She has three children, all grown, who live in Indianapolis, Switzerland, and Germany
- I'll be near Lake Geneva (lac Leman), a supermarket, and about 30 minutes from Geneva (which I'll get to daily via train)
Tonight I'll be officially moving out, since GW Summer Housing only goes through the 16th and they're kicking me out. I'll be staying with a friend for the week, then going up to New Jersey with Matt for another. I fly out of NYC on a group flight (with others in my program) the 28th, and arrive in Geneva on the 29th.
I'm both nervous and excited, somewhat in a state of disbelief that I'm going to be living and studying in Switzerland for the next 4 months. I'll miss GW - and my family, Matt, and all my friends - but I know it will be an amazing experience. More to come when I get there!
